3 Ways To Make the Most of Spring 2024
It’s official: March is upon us which means Spring 2024 is finally here! (At least according to the meteorological calendar). I would like to congratulate my fellow equestrians in the UK on making it through a very wet and muddy winter! And although the fields continue to try and suck our wellies off, the good news is that those dark afternoons and bitter mornings are (hopefully) now behind us!
I have to confess that I’ve never been overly excited by the spring, as the weather in England can be pretty unpredictable and still quite chilly! However, given how much my mum loves it, and since it’s said to be the season of hope and new beginnings, I’ve decided to embrace Spring 2024 as I would the New Year: freshly motivated, with an open mind and determined to make the most of it!
Here’s three ideas for how you can make the most of it too:
1. Have a really good sort out (of your house or tack room)
Spring cleaning is said to be good for us, partly because it helps us feel a sense of control over our lives and gives us a feeling of accomplishment. I personally find it super therapeutic to go through my stuff, not only to clear out the clutter but also to discover precious items I’d completely forgotten about!
2. Revisit your New Year’s resolutions or 2024 goals
Some people believe that the spring is better than the New Year for resolutions, as it’s a time of renewal. Personally, I find resolutions hard to stick to, so I’m using this change in season to revisit my 2024 goals and look at taking some steps towards them. This includes thinking about what trips I want to take this year (and setting dates) and organising fun activities that I’ve been wanting to do for ages (like taking a polo lesson!)
3. Get out hacking and reconnect with the outdoors
Research tells us that connecting with nature benefits our mental health. The spring means longer and warmer days, with nature all around us waking up, so it’s the perfect opportunity to really enjoy the outdoors (and luckily for us, as equestrians, we already spend a lot of time outside!) This year, while out on my hacks, I will be making a special effort to notice the plants coming back to life and flowers blooming; to take in new sounds, smells and colours; and to spot pretty birds.
