What is Equestrian Yoga?

Equestrian Yoga by Mat & Saddle Equestrian Yoga is like normal yoga, but with a twist. Classes are crafted with horse rider needs in mind, and with attention to the riding mindset. All those who attend are equestrians, creating a supportive community of like-minded students.

I am new to yoga or have never tried it before — is that OK?

Yes definitely! Beginners are very welcome! Yoga is for everybody, and our group classes welcome students of all levels and ages. We ask only that you sign a waiver and that you are given the go-ahead by a medical professional if you have any injuries or suffer from any illnesses.

What about my riding? Do I have to be a certain type of rider or at a specific level?

Absolutely not, we welcome all equestrians to come and practice yoga.

I love the idea of yoga, but am a little nervous about trying it for the first time, do you have any advice?

Lots of people feel like this before their first yoga class or with a new teacher, but Elizabeth is experienced in guiding people of all ages and abilities, and she understands and remembers what it feels like to be naturally stiff and/or new to yoga. She will do her upmost to make you feel relaxed and comfortable.

What do I wear to my yoga class?

Please wear breathable, stretchy clothing that will allow you to move freely but will stay put if you’re upside down. (Horse rider tip: riding tights are great!) If you get cold easily, during winter you may need extra layers that you can take off as you warm up. You’ll need to remove shoes and socks, as we always practice yoga barefoot.

What should I bring to my yoga class?

Please bring a yoga mat and a bottle of water to class. I would recommend two yoga blocks and a yoga strap if you have them, but these aren't essential. Towels are also optional. (If you don’t have a yoga mat and want to try a class before you buy one, please email us and we can provide one).

Should I eat before practising yoga?

Please avoid eating a heavy meal before your yoga class, and give yourself time to digest any food before you practice.

I’m in! How do I book and pay for my yoga class?

Please visit our ‘Book A Class’ page and select the day and time you would like to attend. A single class costs £12. You will be asked to fill out your details and make a payment online. Alternatively, you can buy a pack of five classes for £50 or 10 classes for £100, and choose your class(es) afterwards. Please contact us if you experience any problems booking a class online.

I have another question which isn’t on this list – who do I contact?
